ASL is looking for leaders in the following areas - Human Resources, Finance, Fundraising, Project management, Marketing and Communications.
Board Member - Role Description
Are you looking to contribute to Africans economic empowerment and leadership development?

Are you looking to have a great impact on helping entrepreneurs solve Africa’s biggest challenges?

Do you believe you have the expertise, attitude and network to help ASL to grow effectively, helping African entrepreneurs unleash their potential while solving some of Africa’s biggest challenges?
​

We are ready to welcome mission-driven leaders in their quest for impact; leaders who view Africa as a land of unmaterialized potential and want to play a role in shaping its course. A continent where entrepreneurs will increasingly become effective changemakers in achieving sustainable development goals.
​
We request a commitment of 7 - 10 hours a month to help shape ASL strategy. Furthermore, we are looking for experts in one of the following areas: Finance, Fundraising, Project management, Human Resources and/or Marketing and Communication.
​
We are looking for open minded leaders with whom ASL’s mission resonates.
​

Location

ASL is located in the US, board members can be based anywhere as meetings can be attended in person or via video conference call.
Term
-
Board Members are invited to serve a 2 years term and may be eligible for reappointment.
Compensation
-
This position is with a non-profit, hence the position is volunteer in nature and non-compensated.
In addition to the standard duties and characteristics, all Board Members should:

Be open-minded, have a growth mindset, open to testing new approaches and failure, open to considering diverse viewpoints and considering unique strategies.

Be driven to transform the future through entrepreneurship.

Be honest, transparent and have high integrity.
Requirements
-
Selected Board Members will have achieved senior leadership stature in business, social business, impact investing, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.

Have senior experience in AT LEAST one of the following area:
-
Human Resources/ Volunteer Coordination
-
Marketing/Communication
-
Fundraising
-
Finance
-
Project/Program management
-
-
Their accomplishments will allow them to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.

Board Members level leadership in other organizations is a plus but not required.
-
Interest or experience in the African continent.
